VPS and cloud servers
What a VPS in Expanse Panel gives you, how it differs from a game server, and when to use full cloud control.
VPS and cloud servers
A VPS (virtual private server) is your own virtual machine in the location you select. You get root (administrator) access to the operating system, install the software you need, and run websites, game tooling, development stacks, or many small services in one place.
This is a different product from a game server, which is tuned and managed for a specific game or platform. Use the list below to choose.
When to choose a VPS
- You need custom software that is not part of a supported game plan.
- You want to run a web stack, a multi-purpose machine, or your own network tooling.
- You are comfortable with OS updates, security, and firewalls (or you have someone on your team who is).
When to choose a game server instead
- You mainly want a dedicated, ready-to-use game environment with a game-focused control experience.
- You do not want to maintain the whole server OS yourself.
| VPS | Game server | |
|---|---|---|
| Control | You manage the system | Game-focused management for that title |
| Use cases | Many apps, custom stacks, learning Linux | Game hosting as offered in the product |
| Skill | You are responsible for safe configuration | Less server-wide responsibility |
What you will see in the panel
- Order flow to pick a plan, a location, and name your service.
- State for your service (for example, being created, running, or stopped if the account requires it).
- Links to the right console or provider tools the product exposes for that VPS line.
Exact buttons depend on the integration in your panel version; if you cannot find a control, use support and we can point to the right screen.
Networking and public access
- You are responsible for firewall rules and exposed ports in line with the provider’s and Expanse’s terms.
- A VPS can host many sites or apps; plan enough resources (CPU, RAM, disk) for what you will run. You can plan upgrades the same way you ordered—check current plans in the product.
