Zone settings

Zone ID, record count, and how to delete a DNS zone in Expanse Panel—including when deletion is blocked.

Zone settings

At the bottom of a zone’s page in Networking (zone detail), Zone settings summarizes technical metadata and danger zone actions.

Zone ID

Zone ID is the unique identifier Expanse Panel shows for this DNS zone. It is useful when talking to support. You do not need it for everyday DNS edits.

Record count

Record count shows how many DNS records exist in the zone. Deleting the zone removes all of these records permanently from Expanse DNS for that zone.

Deleting a zone

Use Delete zone only when you truly want to remove the zone and every record in it. The panel requires confirmation (including typing a confirmation phrase where shown) because the action cannot be undone.

When deletion is blocked

If the zone is linked to a registered domain service (a domain you registered or transferred through Expanse), the panel does not allow deleting only the DNS zone while that service still exists. You must cancel or transfer the domain service first, per the on-screen message—otherwise you would leave billing or registry state inconsistent with DNS.

External zones (no registered domain service attached) can be deleted from the panel once you confirm, subject to permissions.

Deleting a zone also removes DNS health checks tied to that zone, since they belong to the zone.

Delegation reminder

Deleting a zone here does not automatically change nameservers at your registrar. If you still point the domain at Expanse nameservers after deletion, resolution may fail until you either recreate the zone or update nameservers elsewhere.
